The full trailer and new scene cuts for the film ‘Desert of Namibia’ (Japanese title: ナミビアの砂漠) set to release on September 6th (Friday) have been revealed.
Premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, director and screenwriter Yoko Yamanaka, the youngest female director to win the International Film Critics’ Award, helms the film. Yuumi Kawai portrays the 21-year-old protagonist, Kana, who lacks passion in anything, viewing even romance as mere pastime. Daichi Kaneko plays Hayashi, a confident and provocative individual who gradually deepens his relationship with Kana, while Kanichiro takes on the role of Honda, Kana’s kind but boring boyfriend.
The first half of the trailer depicts everyday scenes of Kana, such as running through the city, playfully leaning on Honda and saying “I love sweet and salty things,” appearing happy on dates with her new boyfriend Hayashi, and watching what appears to be live footage of the Namibian desert on her phone. These scenes reflect the life of a typical 21-year-old girl like Kana. The latter half captures Kana in moments of emotional intensity, abruptly stepping on someone with her foot, running away from a man kneeling in apology, and engaging in a physical fight with a man, showcasing her raw emotions.
Additionally, new scene cuts show Kana holding a man’s hand while blood drips from her nose, vividly portraying the distinctive nature of her character.
