Temple Fest ’24 will be held at Wakamiya Temple in Asahi-machi, Yamagata on September 21st (Saturday).
Temple Fest, a music event held at Wakamiya Temple with over 200 years of history dating back to the late Edo period, has been taking place since 2013. After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it returned in 2023 with performances by Kazunobu Mineta (Ging Nang BOYZ), Atsuyuki Oki (PEACE), Kenta Maeno, Lucky Old Sun, Hi, how are you?, and others.
The event is organized by the temple’s monk, Naotaka Tosaka, who funds it solely from his own earnings over the course of a year, without sponsorship. Tosaka himself is also involved in music and balances his roles as a monk and musician.
At Temple Fest ’24, Sunny Day Service, Kozak Maeda (GAGAGASP), Satoko Shibata, Yujiro Kudo, Messiah to Ninjin, and Naotaka Tosaka will perform. The event will also feature a sermon (a slightly uplifting talk) by Vice Head Priest Takanori Tosaka, along with food and beverage vendors from within and outside Yamagata Prefecture.
Access by car to designated parking areas is recommended, with a free shuttle bus departing every six minutes from there to Wakamiya Temple. Additionally, a paid special bus service connecting Yamagata Station and Wakamiya Temple in approximately 40 minutes will be available for round trips on the event day.
