Artist super-KIKI’s pop-up event “Political Clothing: PINK BOMBING” will be held at BONUS TRACK GALLERY in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, from June 7th (Friday) to 9th (Sunday).
With the theme “Not Separating Streets, Everyday Life, and Culture,” super-KIKI has been expressing questions and messages to society through art since 2011, while participating in demonstrations and protests. They create banners made of stuffed animals, neon-sign-style stencil placards, and offer activities like feminist gamer meetings and silk-screen workshops for printing political messages. Additionally, they explore how to sustainably raise one’s voice without burning out, resulting in the creation of politically-themed items.
This will be super-KIKI’s first pop-up, and will feature a variety of projects, including sales of new works and remakes of vintage clothing, exhibitions of artworks, philosophical dialogues, and workshops. The title of the pop-up is “BOMBING,” a graffiti term meaning to draw or write on the streets in a guerrilla fashion, and pink, the symbolic color of LGBTQ, to express the rebellious spirit against the social system.
Related events include the one-day zine festival “NOISY ZINE & BOOK Intersection of Culture / Activism / Feminism / Queer,” the “Book Fair for Social Change,” and talk events on social movements, design, and art in the neighborhood various locations and online. The three-day event will be an intersection of fashion, culture, art, activism, feminism, and queer.
