IWATE COFFEE FESTIVAL 2024″ will be held on June 1 (Sat.) and 2 (Sun.) at Morioka History and Culture Museum Plaza / Morioka Castle Ruins Park in Iwate Prefecture.
This event will be held for the third time in 2024. It was first held in Hanamaki City in 2019 and Morioka City in 2023, attracting more than 20,000 visitors.
In 2024, 31 roasters from Hokkaido to Okinawa, including those from overseas, will gather. Kazuhiro Nagasawa, owner of Nagasawa Coffee, a famous store in his hometown Morioka, was selected in 2019 by the global coffee media “SPRUDGE” as one of the “20 people who are changing the world through their coffee work. He is not opening a stall, but is supporting the operation of the event with his extensive knowledge. The venue is a pleasant breezy area along the Nakatsu River, where a marché will be held with more than 50 restaurants and sundry stores from all over the prefecture.
Admission is free, and a “coffee ticket” is required for coffee tasting. A limited number of coffee ticket vouchers with demi-cups for coffee tasting are also available, with an original design for 2024 by Morioka-based illustrator Yoka Fukushi. Demi-cups from the first (2019) and second (2023) editions can also be used for the tasting.
On June 1 (Sat), the first day of the event, the Iwate preliminary round of the “Japan AeroPress Championship 2024,” a coffee competition using the AeroPress, will be held in the lobby on the 1st floor of TV Iwate across from the venue. 27 competitors are scheduled to compete, with the top 3 advancing to the final scheduled for August in Fukuoka.
