GINGER ROOT’s new album “SHINBANGUMI” will be released on Friday, September 13. The first single from the album, “No Problems,” will be released on Wednesday, May 22, and its music video has also been released.
GINGER ROOT is the project of Cameron Lew, a multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and visual artist from Southern California. He has released a number of works influenced by Japanese culture, which have been highly acclaimed not only in North America and Japan, but also in Europe and other Asian countries. This is their first full-length album in about four years since 2020’s “Rikki” and is a continuation of the EP “Nisemono” released in 2022.
The music video for “No Problems” is set in 1987. Cameron Roux is working as a contract music supervisor at the newly established TV station “Tenth TV” when one day he is suddenly fired. The film describes how Cameron Roux, faced with this situation, sets up a conglomerate, Ginger Root Productions.
The music video, which begins with the scene where he is fired in Japanese, “Yeah, you’re fired,” was produced with a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving the viewer the feel of watching a CRT television. A number of items reminiscent of 1980s Japan appear in the video, including Cup Noodles, a bullet train, a Toyota Camry, and a Panasonic boom box set, adding color to the song, which incorporates many elements of city pop.
