IDLES, a five-piece band from the U.K., will perform solo in Japan. The Osaka show will be held at Yogibo META VALLEY in Namba on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and the Tokyo show will be held at Zepp DiverCity in Odaiba on Monday, January 27.
IDLES is a post-punk band formed in 2008 in Bristol, and released their debut album, Brutalism, in 2017. The following year, in 2018, they continued with their second album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance. The album features lyrics that refer to social issues such as poverty, immigration, and feminism in the United Kingdom. The song about the band members’ close friend Danny Nedelko, an immigrant from Ukraine, is known as one of the band’s best-known songs from the early days of the band, and was performed live at the Glastonbury festival in the UK. The live video of the song at the Glastonbury festival in the U.K. has been viewed approximately one million times.
The band’s third album, “Ultra Mono,” released in 2020, was the band’s first to reach No. 1 on the U.K. charts, and in 2021 they were joined by producer Kenny Beats, who just made his first tour of Japan in September 2023, and the band’s guitarist, Mark Bowen, In 2021, the band released its fourth album, “Crawler,” co-produced by producer Kenny Beats and the band’s guitarist, Mark Bowen, who just performed in Japan for the first time in September 2023. The album was nominated for “Best Rock Album” and “Best Rock Performance” at the 65th Grammy Awards.
IDLES also reached No. 1 in the UK charts with their latest album, “TANGK,” released in February 2024. They are currently on a world tour to celebrate the release of “TANGK,” and this will be their third visit to Japan in about a year and a half, following their first Japan tour held at Daikanyama UNIT in Tokyo in 2018 and the “Fuji Rock Festival” in 2023.
