Satoshi Shibata’s “Sunao” Now Available for Streaming with Exclusive Artist Commentary

Satoshi Shibata’s new song “Sunao” was released for streaming on January 17th (Wed).

This song marks Satoshi Shibata’s first release of 2024. It features Kazuhiko Masumura on percussion, Yū Taniguchi on Wurlitzer and piano, and Takuro Okada on guitar/bass/sampling. Okada is also responsible for mixing/co-production, with mastering by Dave Cooley, and artwork by Kei Sakawaki. Satoshi Shibata has provided comments on the song upon its release.

Once again, I worked with Takuro Okada from recording to mixing on this project. Originally, this song had a gutsy and rugged image, but as each sound was added, it began to sparkle more, making it a delightful experience. I am deeply grateful to Okada-san, Yū Taniguchi, Kazuhiko Masumura, and everyone who worked on this together. Thank you very much. As for the song, it revolves around a long-standing regret and lingering feelings towards someone. One day, while expressing these sentiments to someone else, I was told, “It’s about whether you would choose to meet that person again, knowing how you feel today, if you could go back in time.” I truly felt that this was spot on, and that’s how the song came to be. After creating it, I stopped anthropomorphizing natural phenomena at my convenience. The encouraging sunlight became just sunlight, and the comforting blue sky became just a blue sky…

Shibata will release her seventh original album “Your Favorite Things” on Wednesday, February 28. She is scheduled to tour Tokyo, Osaka, and Aichi in March with a band set. Tickets for the tour will go on sale to the general public at various play guides on January 20 (Sat.).

In addition, the magazine “Eureka” featuring Shibata will be released on Tuesday, February 27, the day before the album release date.
