Takashi Homma’s solo exhibition “Tokyo Suburbia 1998 → Olympia 2023” will be held at TARO NASU in Roppongi, Tokyo from January 13 (Sat) to February 10 (Sat).
Takashi Homma is a photographer and filmmaker born in Tokyo in 1962. He has published many books and photo collections, including “Tokyo Suburbia,” which won the 24th Ihei Kimura Photography Award in 1999, and “Tokyo Suburbia,” which was awarded the “24th Ihei Kimura Photography Award” in 1999.
This exhibition, his seventh solo show at TARO NASU, will feature a collection of works on the subject of urban Tokyo. The exhibition will feature works from “Tokyo Suburbia TOKYO SUBURBIA,” in which Takashi Homma made his name known to the world by depicting scenes of Tokyo in an unobtrusive manner, as if immersed in lukewarm happiness, as well as works from the “Casa BRUTUS” serial project, in which he photographed the changing city for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for six years, starting in 2015. TOKYO NEW SCAPES”, a series of photographs of the changing city for six years since 2015 in preparation for the “Tokyo 2020 Olympics”, are exhibited in the same space. The transformation of the monstrous city of Tokyo is represented, and questions are raised about what the camera has captured beyond the end of a peaceful everyday life and the history of the Olympics in Tokyo.
The exhibition “Takashi Homma: Improvisation” is being held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Ebisu, Tokyo, until January 21 (Sun), which partly overlaps with the same exhibition. This exhibition features about 50 works created over the past 10 years, centering on “THE NARCISSISTIC CITY,” a series of photographs of cities around the world taken by using a room in a building as a pinhole camera. The exhibition is designed to give visitors a sense of the breadth of Homma’s world of work.
