Sugar House has released its second single, “I WANT IT,” from its debut album, Sugar House, to be released on Wednesday, January 17.
The band was formed in 2019 by Ren Kobayashi (Gt / Vo) and others. The band professes to be influenced by Captured Tracks, an independent label that includes Canadian artist Mac DeMarco, and performs mainly in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. They have performed at many events with Barbican Estate, a three-piece band currently based in London.
“I WANT IT” is a post-punk song with a melancholy and beautiful melody and rhythmic guitar sound. It was recorded and mixed by Ayumu Musha, mastered by Robin Shmidt (24-96 Mastering), and guitar tech and guitar arranger Yosuke Shimonaka (DYGL).
The music video for the song will premiere on YouTube on Wednesday, December 20 at 9pm. The music video was directed, shot, and edited by nimo, who is also a support member of the band.
The band has also announced the “Sugar House 1st Album Release Tour 2024,” an east-meihan tour to commemorate the album release, starting with a performance at SOCORE FACTORY in Minamihorie, Osaka on Tuesday, February 27, followed by performances at KD Hapon in Tsurumai, Nagoya on Friday, March 1, and Shibuya, Tokyo on Friday, March 15. ■Profile
Indie rock band formed in 2019 by Ren Kobayashi (Gt,Vo), Hibiki Uchida (Gt), Yusuke Aoki (Ba), Ryosuke Makiyama (Dr). The band performed their first live show at the “Don’t Count Down” event held by Rhyming Slang in December 2019, and gave a performance with a high degree of perfection that was hard to believe that it was their first live performance. On May 13, 2020, they released their first music video “Control” on YouTube, and on April 7, 2021, they released their first studio-recorded double-sided single “Normal04/Dry” with Kohei Kamoto of DYGL as the sound producer and Yujiro Yonezu as the REC & MIX. Sound production was done by Kohei Kamoto of DYGL, and the recording and mixing was done by Yujiro Yonezu. On November 10, 2021, they released their first EP “Surface”. It features a wide range of songs including “Blind,” a tight post-punk song, “Disappears,” a post-punk x shoegaze song, and “Part of life,” which presents a new sound with the essence of indie pop, an idea that has never been included in their music before, In August 2022, the band released a single, “So Bad,” a new song that would become their new style using synths and auto-tune. Since its release, the song has been added to many playlists both in Japan and abroad, and live offers have increased rapidly, and the band is currently performing energetically in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. The band has also attracted attention from the fashion industry as well as the music industry, including an appearance on the fashion media “Droptokyo”. Uchita (Gt) left the band after the release of “Just Wanna Live It Up” in April 2023, and the band is now active with nimo from VOLZOI as a supporting member.
