The Chofu Cinema Festival 2024″ unveils its film lineup for the upcoming event.
Scheduled to take place from January 26 (Friday) to February 18 (Sunday), 2024, across venues like Chofu City Cultural Hall Tadukuri, AEON CINEMA THEATAS Chofu, and Chofu City Green Hall in Chofu, Tokyo, the festival will shine a spotlight on filmmakers in collaboration with renowned film and video-related entities such as Kadokawa Daiei Studios and Nikkatsu Chofu Studio in the city.
Eight films have been chosen for screening based on the results of the “Japanese Film Popularity Poll,” which gathered 15,237 votes in Chofu City before the festival. The lineup includes the top-ranked “Suzume,” along with films like “Fragments of the Last Will” and the live-action “Whisper of the Heart.” Talk shows featuring directors and technical staff are planned for some of the films.
Additionally, AEON CINEMA THEATAS Chofu will host a special nine-day screening of Studio Ghibli’s “Porco Rosso” in DCP (Digital Cinema Package), aiming to recreate the experience of the film’s initial 35mm production preview.

Eligible voters: Those who live, work, or study in Chofu City, and those who come to Cyathus Chofu.
Voting period: January 27, 2023 to September 3, 2023
Eligible films: Japanese films that were released for the first time in commercial theaters in Japan for a fee between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023.
Number of votes: Up to 3 films per person per vote, 3 times during the voting period (maximum 9 films)
