The 66th Annual Grammy Awards nominations, which will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 (Japan time), have been announced.
The 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards will add three new categories, “Best African Music Performance,” “Best Alternative Jazz Album,” and “Best Pop Dance Recording,” and move two new categories, “Best Producer (Non-Classical)” and “Best Songwriter (Non-Classical)” to the General Field. The two categories of Best Producer (Non-Classical) and Best Songwriter (Non-Classical) have been moved to the General Field, making a total of 94 nominations announced.
The most nominations were received by SZA (9), which was nominated in three of the major categories. Jon Batiste, Billy Irish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Miley Cyrus each received six nominations.
As for artists with roots in Japan, graphic designer/director Masaki Koike, who designed the packaging for Lou Reed’s “Words & Music, May 1965 – Deluxe Edition,” was nominated for “Best Box/Special Limited Edition Packaging. Koike has been nominated in this category before. Koike has been nominated in this category four times before, winning twice in the 50th and 62nd awards.
Guitarist Sean Sibe and tenor Karim Suleiman’s “Broken Branches” was nominated for “Best Classical Solo Vocal Album,” and violinist Anne Akiko Meyers was nominated for “Best Classical Collection” for her “Fandango. Violinist Anne Akiko Meyers was nominated for “Best Classical Collection.
Percussionist Andy Akiho was nominated in three categories, including “Best Classical Album” for his album “Sculptures” with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, for which he served as producer and composer. This is his third consecutive nomination for “Best Contemporary Classical Composition,” following nominations in 2022 and 2023.
WOWOW will broadcast the live broadcast with simultaneous interpretation, and the subtitled version will be broadcast and distributed on the same night.
