“The Pot-au-Feu” will be released in theaters on December 15 (Fri.), 2012, in Japan at Bunkamura Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita, Cineswitch Ginza, Shinjuku Musashino Theater, etc. A Japanese trailer and poster visual have been released in advance of the film’s nationwide sequential release.
The film is directed by Tran Anh Hung, who won the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for “The Scent of Blue Papaya” (1993) and the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival for “Cyclo” (1995), and is highly regarded for his delicate and beautiful images. This film depicts the love and life of a gourmand and a chef who are strongly connected by their passion for cooking. The film won the “Best Director” award at the Cannes Film Festival and was selected to represent France at the 96th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film.
The genius cook Eugenie in the film is played by Juliette Binoche, a famous French actor who won the Academy Award(R) for Best Supporting Actress for “The English Patient” (1996) and was nominated for the same award for Best Actress for “Chocolat” (2000). Benoit Magimel, who won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival for “The Pianist” (2001), was chosen to play Dodin, a gourmet who has feelings for Eugénie.

Plot
Dodin, a gourmet who has pursued “food” to the level of art, and Eugénie, a chef who perfectly recreates the menus he has inspired. The exquisite cuisine created by the two men astonishes people, and enthusiasm for their exceptional talent spreads throughout Europe. One day, Dodan is invited to a dinner party by the Prince of Eurasia, but he is disgusted by the large quantity of food, which is only luxurious but has no logic or theme. Dodan confides in Eugenie that he will entertain the crown prince with the simplest of dishes, pot-au-feu, in order to demonstrate the essence of “food. But then, Eugenie collapses.
