Slowdive’s new album “Everything Is Alive” was released on Friday, September 1. The music video for the song “alife” has also been released.
Slowdive is known as one of the leading shoegaze bands of the 1990s, and although they disbanded in 1995, they reunited in 2014. The album, their fifth album in total, follows their previous album “Slowdive” released in 2017, with a lineup of Rachel Goswell (vo/g), Neil Halstead (vo/g), Christian Saville (g), Nick Chaplin (b), and Simon Scott (dr) The band was produced by a lineup of Nick Chaplin (B) and Simon Scott (Dr). Initially, Halstead envisioned a minimalist electronic work, but the album was ultimately completed as a result of the band’s decision to return to their signature reverb-driven guitars.
The album is said to be dedicated to Goswell’s mother and Scott’s father, who died in 2020. Says Goswell, “There was a profound personal transition for some of us. That crossroads is reflected in the multi-layered emotional tenor of Slowdive’s music. “Everything Is Alive” is heavy by experience, but each note is calm, wise, and inevitably hopeful. Its unique alchemy subtly embodies both sadness and gratitude, groundedness and elation.”
Slowdive’s own label, Dead Oceans, will also release Mitski’s new album, “THE LAND IS INHOSPITABLE AND SO ARE WE,” on Friday, September 15, and a campaign will be held to celebrate the release of both new albums. As a special offer for purchasers, trading cards of the label’s artists will be given away, and an entry campaign will also be held to win goods from each artist.
