The film “BLUEBACK” will be released in theaters on Friday, December 29.
The film is based on the best-selling novel by Australian author Tim Winton. The film is directed by Robert Connolly, who directed the crime suspense “The Dry” which was released in Japan last year.
Abby, a marine biologist, returns to her hometown in Western Australia after receiving news that her mother, Dora, has suffered a stroke. Abby takes care of Dora, who has lost her speech, at her parents’ home overlooking the beautiful ocean, and the story is that she looks back on the days she spent as a young girl in this house and reexamines her own origins.
Abby is played by Mia Wasikowska, who has appeared in such films as “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Kids Are All Right. Her mother, Dora, is played by Radha Mitchell of “Melinda and Melinda” and “Silent Hill”. Eric Bana, who starred in and produced Robert Connolly’s previous film “The Dry” plays Macca, a fisherman who has a heart-to-heart with the mother and son, and Ariel Donoghue and Ilsa Fogg play 8- and 15-year-old Abby, respectively.
