KYOTO EXPERIMENT Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2023 will be held from September 30 (Sat) to October 22 (Sun) at Rohm Theater Kyoto and other venues in Kyoto.
KYOTO EXPERIMENT Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2023 has been held since 2010, presenting noteworthy performing arts works from Japan and abroad. The first five participating artists, chelfitsch, Back to Back Theater, Ayaka Nakama, Dayna Michelle, and Mariano Pensotti / Grupo Marea, have been announced.
On July 20, the full program and the keyword for this year’s festival, “Mixed Mixed,” were announced. The program includes “Kansai Studies,” a research program to explore the Kansai region, where the festival is rooted, from the artists’ perspective and to cultivate the creative soil for the future; “Shows,” a performance program to introduce experimental performing arts from around the world; and “Mixed Mixed Mixed,” a program to consider experimental expression, its background, and the present. The program “Super Knowledge for the Future (SKF)” is a program of workshops and talks on topics related to experimental expression, the backgrounds in which they are born, and the present.
In addition, seven new participating artists have been announced: Lee Lan, Wichaya Ahtamat, Alice Ripoll/Cia. REC, Shota Yamauchi & Maki Weda, Ruth Childs & Lucinda Childs, and Samson Yang.
