The film “Barbie” will be released in Japan on Friday, August 11th.
The film is the first film adaptation of the dress-up doll “Barbie” and its surrounding world. It is a fantasy film in which Barbie and Ken, who live in Barbie Land, learn about the “secrets of the world” while causing disturbances in the real human world where they go to investigate the cause of Barbie’s physical abnormality.
The film is directed and written by Greta Gerwig, who also directed “Lady Bird” and “Story of My Life. Margot Robbie will play Barbie and Ryan Gosling will play Ken.
The Japanese dub for Barbie will be played by Mitsuki Takahata. The casting of Mitsuki Takahata, who has long professed to be a fan of “The Story of My Life,” was made official after auditions in Japan. The Japanese dubbed version will be directed by Isao Kajitani, who also directed Takahata in “Cinderella.
