The theme song for the upcoming film ‘Showtime Seven,’ scheduled for release on February 7, has been confirmed as Perfume’s new track, “Human Factory” A new trailer featuring the song was also released, offering a glimpse of the suspenseful thriller.
‘Showtime Seven’ is a Japanese adaptation of the highly successful Korean solid thriller ‘Terror, Live.’ The movie brings original elements to the story, set in a TV station where a bomb has been planted. The plot follows a former popular news anchor, Shinnosuke Erimoto, who has been demoted to a radio station. He is suddenly called upon as a negotiator by a mysterious man, and finds himself in the live broadcast studio, engaging in a “life-or-death live broadcast” with the criminal. The film is directed and written by Kazuki Watanabe, known for his work on Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai.
Hiroshi Abe stars as Shinnosuke Erimoto, the once-popular anchor of Showtime 7, who is now facing a demotion to a radio station. The cast also includes Ryosei Ryo, Meru Nakamura, Haruka Igawa, and Kôtarô Yoshida.
In a surprising turn, Perfume will not only provide the theme song for the movie, but also appear as themselves in the film. This marks their first feature film appearance since 2011’s Moteki, a gap of 14 years. Upon the announcement, both Perfume and the movie’s producer, Yoko Ide, shared their excitement about the collaboration.
The film promises to deliver high-intensity suspense, and with Perfume’s involvement, it is poised to be an exciting release this February.
<Perfume’s comment
Not only did we have the honor of providing the theme song, but we also got to appear in the film. It was an experience unlike anything we get to feel in our usual music career. This movie is constantly thrilling, and even when a major incident is unfolding, humans tend to think of it as something happening far away, as if it doesn’t concern them, and go on with their lives. We want our theme song to help convey that feeling that everyone carries inside. We hope that, with the final play of the theme song, the audience’s hearts will feel a sense of release and warmth. After hearing the movie’s story, I was really looking forward to the tension of negotiating in real-time, with every word and sentence needing to be perfect, as the protagonist is pulled into a big crisis starting from what seemed like a prank phone call. I’m also really curious about the criminal’s motive—what’s going on there? But I trust that Abe-san will surely save everyone in the end!<Yoko Ide (producer) commented
‘Showtime Seven’ is a story of news anchor Erimoto, trapped in the studio under extreme conditions, live-broadcasting a tense battle with an unseen criminal. I want the audience to feel as though they are locked in the cinema, experiencing the entire sequence of events in real-time, just like the characters in the movie. For this reason, the theme song that plays at the very end is inseparable from the narrative of the film.I remember many years ago when I first saw Perfume’s live performance. It wasn’t just a concert; it was an incredible show that drew me into Perfume’s world. I felt a strong modernity mixed with pop energy and stimulation in their music. With Perfume providing the theme song for Showtime Seven, the film has transcended being just an ending song. It has become a piece of entertainment that brings us into the present moment, capturing the story’s climax and what happens beyond it.
The latest trailer featuring the theme song begins with a scene where a mysterious man threatens over the phone amid the sound of warning alarms. The video then transitions through various intense moments, including Erimoto and others negotiating with the bomb terrorist during a live broadcast as they are pushed to their limits, as well as scenes of Perfume performing in the studio. The trailer conveys the high tension of the “life-or-death live broadcast.”
In addition, it has been announced that the costumes worn by Perfume’s members in the film will be displayed. The exhibition will be held at MOVIX Saitama in Saitama from January 11 (Saturday) to January 21 (Tuesday), at Hiroshima Balt 11 from January 25 (Saturday) to February 11 (Tuesday, public holiday), and at Aichi’s Midland Square Cinema from February 14 (Friday) to March 2 (Sunday).
