The film ‘Babygirl’ is set to be released in Japan on March 25, 2025.
The story centers around Romy, a woman who has achieved great success as a female CEO in New York and leads an enviable life with her husband Jacob and their children. The narrative unfolds as Samuel, an intern, discovers Romy’s hidden desires, setting the stage for their “game of seduction.”
Nicole Kidman stars as Romy, with the screenplay specifically tailored for her from the conceptual stage. Kidman won the Best Actress award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival for her performance. Jury President Isabelle Huppert praised her portrayal, saying, “She embodied a role that mixes strong social aspects with fragile private ones, showcasing her wide range of acting ability.” Kidman herself noted, “As an actor and as a person, I laid everything bare” regarding her performance.
Harris Dickinson, known for roles in ‘The King’s Man’ and ‘The Iron Claw,’ plays Samuel, the intern. Romy’s husband, Jacob, is portrayed by Antonio Banderas, who won numerous film awards for his role in ‘Pain and Glory.’ Sophie Wilde, who made a mark as the lead in ‘Talk to Me,’ plays Esme, a subordinate who admires Romy. The film is directed and written by Halina Reijn, who has also acted in Paul Verhoeven’s ‘Black Book’ and starred alongside Tom Cruise in ‘Valkyrie.’
