The showcase “Echoes Now” of the “KYOTO EXPERIMENT: Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2024” will be held at the Kyoto Art Center Free Space on October 17 (Thursday) and 18 (Friday).
“KYOTO EXPERIMENT” is a festival that welcomes artists from both Japan and abroad to present performing arts works. “Echoes Now” is a performance program that showcases next-generation curators and artists anticipated by the festival, featuring performances and theatrical presentations by artists selected by three curators: Maki Kawaguchi, Takuya Tsutsumi, and Nagara Wada.
Kawaguchi, who works in the Public Relations Department of the Project Planning and Promotion Office at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum, collaborates with artists across various fields and manages exhibition planning. She has selected a performance titled “School Ghost” by contemporary artist Daisuke Kuroda. Independent curator and graphic designer Tsutsumi chose a performance called “CHASHITSU” by artist Rin Takahashi, who expresses the uncertainties of tradition and contemporary issues and the ambiguities of humanity. Wada, a director based in Kyoto and chairman of the Kyoto Performing Arts Association, has selected a play titled “Interior” by Yukitaka Fukui, a director born in Kyoto. An introduction to the program and curator statements are available on the festival’s official website.
Tickets for “Echoes Now” are now on sale through Peatix. A post-performance talk featuring Kawaguchi, Tsutsumi, Wada, and the co-directors of “KYOTO EXPERIMENT” will take place after the performance on October 17 (Thursday).
The “KYOTO EXPERIMENT: Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2024” will run for 23 days from October 5 (Saturday) to 27 (Sunday), showcasing experimental stage works from around the world under the theme “Um, um.”
