The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) took place at UBS Arena in New York on Thursday, September 12th (JST), where Megan Thee Stallion and Yuki Chiba’s collaboration track “Mamushi” won the Best Trending Video award.
The VMAs are one of the largest music award ceremonies in the U.S., recognizing the year’s best music videos and artists. During Megan’s performance, Yuki Chiba made a surprise appearance as a guest, performing their collaboration “Mamushi” live on stage. This marked a historic moment as Yuki became the first Japanese artist to perform on the main stage of the VMAs.
The Video of the Year award went to Taylor Swift for her collaboration with Post Malone on the song “Fortnight.” Taylor directed, produced, and wrote the video herself, commenting, “This incredible experience of creating the video was thanks to everyone who worked alongside me.” This marks her third consecutive win in this category.
Additionally, the stage saw appearances from artists who have shaped the 2024 music scene, including Eminem, BLACKPINK’s LISA, Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan, all of whom energized the crowd with their performances. The event will be broadcast with Japanese subtitles on MTV on Saturday, September 28th at 7:30 PM.
