The trailer for the A24-produced drama series ‘Sunny,’ which will be distributed worldwide on Apple TV from July 10 (Wednesday), has been released.
The 10-episode ‘Sunny’ is a mystery series full of dark humor, based on the novel “The Dark Manual” by Colin O’Sullivan, an Irish author living in Japan. The main character, Susie, is an American woman living in Kyoto who loses track of her husband and son in a mysterious plane crash. As a “sympathy gift,” she is given Sunny, a new household robot manufactured by the electronics company where her husband works. Susie is annoyed at Sunny’s attempts to comfort her, but eventually a friendship develops between the two. As they work together to find out what happened to their family, they enter a terrifying world they never knew existed.
The film is directed by Lucy Cherniak and stars Rashida Jones, with Cherniak and Jones also serving as executive producers. Other cast members include Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, YOU, Annie the Clumsy, and Jun Kunimura.
In the trailer, the film features the line, “My family was in a plane crash. With the line, “Since then, things have been strange.” The trailer also shows the robot Sunny and Suzy at the mercy of various events in Kyoto, the setting of the film.
