The outdoor music event “UNDER A TREE in Kanazawa” will be held on Saturday, May 11 at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Ishikawa.
UNDER A TREE (Listen to Music Outside In The Daylight Under A Tree) is curated by producer/DJ Matthew David, founder of the Los Angeles record label Leaving Records. The event is curated by Matthew David, a producer and DJ and founder of the Los Angeles record label Leaving Records, and is held regularly at Elysian Park, the oldest park in Los Angeles. The event is also characterized by its ingenuity in allowing people to spend their time openly while bringing their own seats and lunch.

This event, the first of its kind to be held in Japan, was planned as a related program to the exhibition “Collection Exhibition 2: Electricity – Sound,” which was scheduled to run until Sunday, May 12, but was canceled due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake of 2024. The program included a collaboration between Matthew David, producer/musician Fumitake Tamura, Berlin-based percussionist Joda Foerster, and composer Niklas Kramer, “J Foerster / N Kramer,” and artists ASUNA and Hiraki Sawa, both from Ishikawa Prefecture, will perform. Of these, ASUNA is also performing his masterpiece “ASUNA 100 Keyboards” at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa in December 2023, with tickets sold out.

Admission to “UNDER A TREE in Kanazawa” is free with all donations going to the Noto Peninsula 2024 earthquake disaster relief fund. Matthew David, Fumitake Tamura, and J Foerster / N Kramer will hold the “Leaving Records Tour in Japan 2024,” starting with this performance and continuing through May 19 (Sun.) in seven cities.
