A special exhibition program, “New Art Experiences to Light Up the Future of Bunkamura,” will be held at Bunkamura in Shibuya, Tokyo, from March 16 (Sat) to 24 (Sun).
The program will be held as part of “THE INSTALLATION II,” a project within “Shibuya Fashion Week 2024 Spring,” at Bunkamura, which is currently closed. A large installation by Tatsu Nishino, an artist who has been active mainly in Europe and attracted attention in November 2023 with his work “Hachiko’s Room,” in which a “Hachiko statue” of Shibuya sits in a bedroom, will be exhibited in the atrium that extends to the basement floor. The work is titled “Mirror Ball Furniture” and uses furniture and fixtures that have actually been used at Bunkamura.
In the former Bunkamura Studio, visitors can view a new sound installation by musician/sound artist evala. evala’s spatial sound album, “Audiovisual Landscapes in Rittor Base – HPL ver. won the Honor Award in the Digital Music & Sound Art category at “Ars Electronica 2021” and the Excellence Award at the “24th Japan Media Arts Festival”.
In addition, “9 Days Book Store & Art Market” was held at the former Book Shop. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the areas affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake.
Admission to the program is free.
