As part of the Shibuya Arrow Project’s renewal initiative, a mural created by Barry McGee has been unveiled on the Koshindo Overpass in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward, East 3-chome.
The Shibuya Arrow Project was launched by Shibuya Ward in 2017 to inform visitors and residents of the city of temporary evacuation sites and evacuation routes in the event of a disaster. The purpose of the project is to provide information on the locations of temporary evacuation sites designated by Shibuya Ward through art, and to promote disaster awareness and disaster preparedness in normal times.
The Shibuya Arrow Project, which will be renewed with new branding in 2024, will unveil a large 16m wide x 3.5m high mural by internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Barry McGee as its first phase. The work is a mixture of geotric graphics and portrait drawings in his characteristic style. The nearest temporary disaster evacuation site is Yebisu Garden Place.
