The exhibition “Ishikawa Mao – What Can I Do?” will be held at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in Hatsudai, Tokyo, from October 13 (Fri) to December 24 (Sun).
Mao Ishikawa is a photographer from Okinawa, Japan. he started photography in 1970’s and has been working closely with people around Okinawa. in 2011, she won the Sagamihara Photo Award for “FENCES, OKINAWA” and in 2019, the Japan Photographic Society Award for Artists. in 2021, she will hold a retrospective exhibition “Mao Ishikawa: Minikukumo Utsukushii Hito no Issyo,Watashi wa Ningen ga Sukida” at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum.
This exhibition, Ishikawa’s first solo show in Tokyo, will look back on her career as a photographer, starting with her major works from her early years and continuing up to the present. The exhibition will feature approximately 170 works, including selected works from the series she has published so far, as well as new works from her “Dai Ryukyu Shashin Emaki” which she has been working on since 2014.
