“ASHIGEI 2023” will be held from August 4 (Fri.) to August 19 (Sat.) at the Shari-cho Old Town Hall on the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido.
The festival is an art project that aims to rediscover local culture and create new values through participatory projects, performances, and exhibitions.
The title of the festival is derived from the Ainu word “Shari,” meaning “field of reeds,” and is intended to foster a “field of imagination” of art while floundering in the field of “reeds,” which has a multifaceted meaning.
Admission to the “Reed Art Wilderness Festival 2023” is free, and in addition to the main venue, the former town hall building, visitors can enjoy participatory projects and workshops, outdoor theater, performance performances, improvisational music, and exhibitions of works by local artists at the remote venue “Kawamura Residence: The Field of the Northern Calendar” and the satellite venue “Himitsukichi Kohitsuji”. and more.
