cocoon” is based on Kyo Machiko’s 2010 manga of the same title, which depicts “war” through the perspective of a young girl living on an island. In 2010, it was recommended by the Jury of the Japan Media Arts Festival, and in 2013 and 2022, a stage production was staged by the theater group “Marm and Gypsy”.
The animation producer is Hitomi Tateno, who has worked on many Studio Ghibli productions.
The animation “cocoon” is scheduled to be broadcast in the summer of 2025, the 80th anniversary of the end of the Pacific War.
