The “Gampeki Music Festival THE FINAL” will be held at Uriwari Garden Park in Takahata Town, Yamagata, on September 20 (Saturday) and 21 (Sunday).
Launched in 2019, the “Gampeki Music Festival” is an outdoor event that combines the breathtaking cliffs, which have been shaped through centuries of human effort, with cutting-edge artists from the music scene. The festival aims to push the boundaries of music possibilities. The stage, set in a “Stone Quarry” surrounded by cliffs over 50 meters high, offers a visually stunning experience that captivates everyone who attends.
Known for its “open-source festival” concept, the organizers have shared their journey—ranging from booking and event setup to managing finances and even postponing during the pandemic—on the festival’s official note. The 2022 festival edition drew attention with performances by domestic acts like D.A.N. (DJ set), kZm, and Sarasa, as well as international artists such as Omega Sapien from South Korea and ena mori from the Philippines.
As this will be the final edition of the festival, the event will expand from its usual one-day format to a two-day celebration, gathering final insights and completing its manual before the project concludes. Performers will be announced at a later date.
Tickets will not be available online but can be purchased at stores in Tokyo, Kyoto, Yamagata, Iwate, Miyagi, Aichi, or at the “PIXEL” events organized by the festival, held on the fourth Sunday of every even-numbered month at KOARA in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Gampeki Music Festival Statement:
The Gampeki Music Festival will take its final bow in September 2025. This festival was born with the vision of “open-sourcing the art of creating a festival.”
From its inaugural year in 2019, the festival laid bare everything—planning details, financial insights, and even the decisions surrounding pandemic-related postponements and cancellations, all shared openly through notes. By 2022, instead of typical event brochures, every attendee received a detailed manual explaining the festival’s inner workings.
Choosing to stay independent and rejecting big sponsorships or government aid, the festival focused on gathering sustainable knowledge and creating a replicable model for future creators.
For its grand finale in 2025, the festival will introduce its first-ever two-day event, marking the final chapter by collecting the last bits of wisdom to complete the festival’s ultimate How-To guide before dissolving the project.
This year’s tickets will be available solely through physical sales and hand-to-hand transactions, with no online availability.
Rather than getting swept up in social media trends or other people’s opinions, we want to focus on the festival experience itself in this final year. Tickets can be found at local record stores, pizzerias, coffee stands, and other cultural spaces, each with its own unique flavor.
For us, the festival journey starts the moment you pick up your ticket. We believe the raw energy of a crowd gathered through personal sales is exactly what this time needs.
We can’t wait to see you this September, surrounded by towering cliffs.
