Hikaru Utada’s latest track “Electricity” will be released in a remixed version on February 15.
“Electricity,” the only new track included in Utada’s 2024 best-of album SCIENCE FICTION, was also accompanied by a music video released in December 2024. The remix is handled by Karen Nyame KG, a London-based producer known as the “Goddess of Rhythm.” Nyame is celebrated for her use of African polyrhythms, deep sub-bass, and energetic drum patterns. Her 2021 EP Sensei II has garnered over 2 million streams.
On February 14, the day before the release, a DJ event will be held at the EXPO’70 Pavilion Annex in Osaka’s Expo Memorial Park. Along with Karen Nyame KG, DJs YANATAKE and POIPOI will perform, and the world premiere of “Electricity (Karen Nyame KG remix)” will take place. Tickets are available through pre-sale on ePlus, and attendees will receive a “Takoyaki Kumachan Sticker” as a special gift. Additionally, the track will be first aired on FM802’s ROCK KIDS 802-Lisa Lit Friday- at 9:00 PM, right after the event.
Following the Expo Memorial Park event, Karen Nyame KG will perform at CIRCUS Osaka in Shinsaibashi at 11:00 PM, and the following day, on February 15, a release event will take place at Fumin Yūgi Lion in Shibuya, Tokyo. Both events are late-night performances and are restricted to those 20 years old and over.
Additionally, from February 14 to 24, a special installation of Hikaru Utada’s photo book NINE STORIES will be held at the EXPO’70 Pavilion Annex. NINE STORIES, releasing on March 21 (Friday), is a photo collection documenting Hikaru Utada’s SCIENCE FICTION TOUR 2024 through the lenses of nine photographers, commemorating their 25th anniversary. Attendees will also receive the “Takoyaki Kumachan Sticker” as a special gift.
