The Japanese release date for the film ‘Queer’ has been set for Friday, May 9.
Based on the autobiographical novel by William S. Burroughs, a prominent author of the 1950s American Beat Generation, ‘Queer’ is directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for films such as ‘Call Me by Your Name’ and ‘Challengers.’ The film stars Daniel Craig, famous for his role in the ‘James Bond’ series.
Set in 1950s Mexico City, the story follows Lee (Daniel Craig), a diplomat living a monotonous life within a secluded American community. One day, at his regular bar, he meets Eugene (Drew Starkey), a young and handsome student who has just arrived in the city. As their relationship develops, Lee becomes increasingly captivated by Eugene.

The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival and was released in limited theaters in the United States on Wednesday, November 27, where it achieved a strong opening performance. Additionally, on Wednesday, December 4, Queer was named one of the top 10 films of 2024 by the National Board of Review (a U.S. film critics association), and Daniel Craig won the Best Actor award.
Furthermore, on Monday, December 9, it was announced that Daniel Craig received a nomination for Best Actor in a Drama at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. This marks his third Golden Globe nomination, following his nods for ‘Knives Out’ (2019) and ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ (2022), with many anticipating that he could win this time for his performance in ‘Queer.’
