The art event Roppongi Art Night 2024 will be held from September 27 (Friday) to 29 (Sunday) across the streets of Roppongi.
Launched in 2009, this event has become a major art festival representing Tokyo. It features not only renowned locations such as Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown, the Mori Art Museum, Suntory Museum of Art, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, and the National Art Center, Tokyo but also includes Roppongi shopping streets and other local venues and public spaces.
This year, the event will be extended to three days, with a core time each day focusing on performances and other programs. New additions include “RAN Picks,” which showcases selected domestic and international artists, and “RAN Focus,” which highlights artists from specific countries or regions. “RAN Picks” will feature six groups: Atelier SISU, Jennifer Wen Ma, Kyota Takahashi, Chen Po, Tsai & Yoshikawa, and MeimageDance. For “RAN Focus,” focusing on Taiwan, the lineup includes Chen Po, Tsai & Yoshikawa, MeimageDance, along with Watermelon Sisters and Yuan Guangming.
Additionally, the event will feature programs from past Roppongi Art Night artists. About 40 programs will be presented, including installations, performances, music, video, talks, and digital art by approximately 30 artists. The event will also include a comment from the Executive Committee Chairman and Mori Art Museum Director, Mami Kataoka.
The art festival Roppongi Art Night will be held in the streets of Roppongi in September 2024.
As we navigate post-pandemic changes in lifestyle and societal values, this year marks the 13th edition of Roppongi Art Night, which will focus on sustainability and reaching new generations. We will explore new frameworks and series while reestablishing our founding concept as a constant theme: “A Festival of Cities, Art, and the Future.” The goal is to evolve Roppongi Art Night into a more globally oriented, night-time event.
This year, instead of the traditional format centered around main artists, we will introduce “RAN Picks,” featuring six domestic and international artists highlighted by Roppongi Art Night. Their works will be displayed at locations such as Roppongi Hills, the National Art Center, Tokyo Midtown, and more. Additionally, we will launch “RAN Focus,” which will spotlight art from various countries or regions, with a focus on Taiwanese art for this edition.
The festival will also feature opening performances, talk programs, encore presentations of popular past works, and community projects involving local residents. Expect even more enriching content at Roppongi Art Night 2024.
