Kenta Maeno’s 8th album “Eigyochu” will be released on CD on Wednesday, July 31st.
Kenta Maeno, who has garnered attention with his self-conceived festival “Sekai Uta Jiman Taikai,” focused on singing and set to be held in August at the Akishima Civic Hall, saw tickets sell out on the first day. His new work marks a departure from the band sound of his previous album “Waichai,” instead featuring simpler songs and being his first entirely solo multi-track recording album in 15 years since his second album “Samishii Dake” released in 2009. The album includes songs centered around guitar, synthesizer, piano, and even almost spoken-word tracks, all performed, recorded, and arranged solely by Maeno.
“Eigyochu” contains 13 tracks that capture various moments and scenes that moved Maeno’s heart—flowers, people, cicadas, festivals, a café owner dozing off, an izakaya master, the sunset at a velodrome after a race, and warm beer. These scenes are recorded in a calm, sketch-like manner, as if taking photographs. Maeno’s pared-down, straightforward voice conveys the essence of the lyrics in their entirety.
About a year ago, I decided to name my next album “Eigyochu.” I’m glad it will be released in time for summer since it includes many summer songs. I tried playing the drums, the piano, and various other things by myself, but it feels like what I recorded is just “songs.” If you come across it, I hope you’ll enjoy it.
