From July 19 (Friday), a Tokyo exhibition of the “Paul McCartney Photo Exhibition 1963-64 -Eyes of the Storm-” will be held at Tokyo City View in Roppongi, featuring exclusive displays and merchandise sales limited to Japan.
Previously showcased in cities like London and New York, this exhibition focuses on photographs taken by Paul McCartney himself, documenting a three-month period from December 1963 when The Beatles became a global sensation to their iconic performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in February 1964.
On display are approximately 250 selected from a collection of 1,000 photographs taken by Paul with a 35mm film camera in 2020, previously unseen for 60 years and rediscovered from Paul’s personal archive. The exhibition is structured into nine chapters chronologically, with Paul himself providing audio commentary explaining highlights of the works and the cultural backdrop of the time, including personal insights into the era’s changes and experiences.
At the Tokyo exhibition, newly installed for this occasion, visitors can enjoy an original photo spot and oversized photo panels of The Beatles members exceeding 2 meters in height. Held at Tokyo City View on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, the venue features an expansive 11-meter-high atrium, offering a blend of visuals displayed on the observation deck’s windows and panoramic views of Tokyo from 250 meters above sea level.
Exclusive to the Japan exhibition are original merchandise items including apparel and accessories inspired by the exhibited works. Popular items from previous exhibitions in the UK and the US will also be available for sale, with promotional images showcasing the array of merchandise.
The Tokyo exhibition will be held until September 24 (Tue), and the Osaka exhibition will be held from October 12 (Sat) at Grand Front Osaka in Umeda, Osaka.
