Amayadori’s two main performances, “Rogoku no Mori” and “Ureshii Himei” will be held at the Kichijoji Theater in Tokyo from August 17 (Sat) to 26 (Mon).
Amayadori was founded in 2001 by Junichi Hirota, a student at the University of Tokyo, as “Hyottoko Ranbu” and took on its current name in 2012. The performance will feature two pieces at the same time: “Rogoku no Mori” a new conversation play created in June at the Honokuni Toyohashi Arts Theatre PLAT in Aichi, and “Ureshii Himei” the final piece from the “Hyottoko Ranbu” period.
“Rogoku no Mori” is a sci-fi conversational drama set in a near future “forest” formed by people who have been half-excluded from society as pre-criminals. “Ureshii Himei” is an Amayadori version of “Romeo and Juliet” that depicts the madness of a group of people and their tragic love affair centering on a woman who feels too much and a man who has no sense of pain.
Junichi Hirota will write and direct the two productions. The cast of “Rogoku no Mori” includes Daisuke Kurata, Seima Numata, Ruka Aiba, Madoka Tokura, Tetsuya Fukami, Asuka Miyagawa, Kazuyuki Tsutsumi, Rina Hoshino, and Kanjo Inagaki (all from Amayadori), and Sannagi. The cast of “Ureshii Himei” includes Riko Aiba, Yuma Miyazaki, Yukiko Otsuka (all from Amayadori), Kotaro Nishikawa (Oshare Shinshi), Taisuke Nishimoto, Sho Segawa, Kyosuke Tsuda, Shiho Naruse, Tamaki Tsukino, Anna Natsu, Hinako Motoyama, Kai Miyamoto, Nanami Kajikawa, Minori Komachi, Shuhei Mio, Kiho Sakurai, Chisato Chikanaga, Ryu Arakawa (Kosoku Piero), and Yoko Zan.
Tickets go on sale Saturday, July 6. For those who have never seen Amayadori before, up to three people per stage will be invited as free monitors, and “Gift Tickets” will be available to share the excitement of the performance.
