The release date of the film ‘Cloud’ has been set for September 27 (Friday), and a special trailer and teaser poster have been released.
The film marks the first collaboration between director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, winner of the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 77th Venice International Film Festival for ‘Wife of a Spy’ (2020), and Masaki Sugata, who has led the Japanese film industry with numerous blockbusters such as “We Made a Beautiful Bouquet” and “Don’t Call It Mystery.” This suspense thriller depicts the “collective madness” that is born from a chain of hatred that spreads in a faceless society.
In this film, Masaki Sugata plays Ryosuke Yoshii, who earns money through resale under the handle “Ratel. In the special feature film, in addition to Yoshii who suddenly becomes a “target” and is targeted by a man in a creepy bag mask, there are also performances by Kotonori Furukawa as Akiko, Yoshii’s mysterious lover; Taikane Okudaira as Sano, a part-time worker hired by Yoshii; Tennan Okamoto as Miyake, a man living in an Internet cafe; Yoshiyoshi Arakawa as Takimoto, the manager of the factory where Yoshii works; and Masayoshi Kubota as Muraoka, an older worker who invites Yoshii to join his resale business. Masataka Kubo as Muraoka, the senior who invites Yoshii to join his resale business. The film uses “The Day of Wrath” from Verdi’s classical masterpiece “Messa da Requiem” to evoke an image reminiscent of madness.
There are two types of teaser posters released along with the film. The main visual shows Yoshii standing in an abandoned building, holding a gun in an unfamiliar manner. The other visual is a man in a sack mask standing behind a frosted glass door. The visuals symbolize the fear of being targeted by an anonymous, unspecified person, in analogy to the film’s story.
