The Japanese release of the film “VESPER” is scheduled for January 19 (Friday).
Recipient of the Golden Crow Award at the 40th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, “VESPER” unfolds in a world devastated by a ruined ecosystem. Within the fortified city called the Citadel, the privileged few reside, while the majority of the impoverished struggle for scarce resources in the perilous outside world. The narrative follows Vesper, a young girl residing with her ailing father, who encounters Camelia, a fallen woman claiming to be the daughter of a powerful Citadel figure. Vesper embarks on a quest to find Camelia and her father, lost in a crashed flying boat.
Directed and co-written by Lithuanian-born Christina Vuosite and French-born Bruno Samper, the filmmakers behind “Nightmare is a Lust,” the protagonist, Vesper, is portrayed by Rafiera Chapman, known for her roles in “Miss Peregrine and the Curious Children” and the Academy Award-winning “The Doctor and Her Theory.” The ensemble cast includes Eddie Marsan, Rosie McEwan, and Richard Blake.
Accompanying the Japanese release date announcement is the film’s trailer, showcasing a vision of the “broken earth” inspired by Jim Henson and Hayao Miyazaki. The trailer also hints at the relentless pursuit of Vesper’s uncle Jonas, seeking the whereabouts of the same flying boat.
