“The Exorcist: Believer,” which will be released in Japan on December 1 (Friday), has released its trailer and visuals.
The Exorcist: Believer” is a horror film sequel to “The Exorcist,” which was released in Japan in 1974 and became the highest-grossing film of the year. The film tells the story of how both families seek help from Chris McNeil, whose daughter had a similar experience 50 years ago, in order to save the two girls from demonic possession. The film is directed and written by David Gordon Green, and Chris is played by Ellen Burstyn, who also played the same character in “The Exorcist.
The trailer begins with a scene in which Chris’ face contorts as he is reunited with an unwanted demon, “We’ve met before,” followed by a scene in which the girls are tied back-to-back to chairs for a spectacular exorcism. The film also includes a number of highly suggestive cuts.
The visual was released at the same time as the release of the trailer. Against the background of a church chapel, a young girl with black and red stains on her clothes and countless cuts on her face looks toward us, with the copy “An incomparable terror awakens. The copy is attached to the side of the picture.
The film will be screened in the gala selection section of the 36th Tokyo International Film Festival, and will be the first film to be screened in Japan on October 28 (Saturday).
