The opera “Simon Boccanegra” by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, from November 15.
Based on Simon Boccanegra, the first governor of the 14th century maritime state of Genoa, “Simon Boccanegra” depicts the struggle between commoners and nobles, and the love and differences between parents, children, and lovers. The production will be directed by Pierre Audi, one of the leading contemporary opera directors. The stage design is by Anish Kapoor, an internationally acclaimed sculptor whom Audi has placed great trust in, and the collaboration between the two will be realized following “Parsifal” and “Pelleas et Melisande.
Conductor is Kazushi Ohno, Artistic Director of the New National Theatre Opera. The cast will include Roberto Frontali, Irina Lungu, Riccardo Zanellato, Luciano Ganci, Simone Alberghini, and other world-class singers.
The performance dates are Wednesday, November 15, Saturday, November 18, Tuesday, November 21, Thursday, November 23, and Sunday, November 26, and advance ticket sales will begin on Saturday, September 9.
