”ABSTRACTION: The Genesis and Evolution of Abstract Painting Cézanne, Fauvism, Cubism and on to Today” is being held at the Artizon Museum in Kyobashi, Tokyo, from June 3 to August 20.
The exhibition traces the history of abstract paintings that emerged in the early 20th century, starting with Impressionism, and follows its development from its inception until approximately the 1960s, exhibiting approximately 250 works from France, Europe, the U.S., and Japan.
In addition to 95 works from the Artizon Museum of Art’s recent collection, the exhibition will also feature over 30 works from museums and private collections, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France, and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., including some works on view for the first time in Japan. From Japan, about 70 works from national, public, and private museums and private collections will be exhibited.
