Nagase Yuka has officially announced the release of her upcoming concept album Mofu Mohu, scheduled to drop on Friday, May 23.
The album explores themes of liminality and surrealism, concepts Nagase has long developed throughout her artistic career. It features nine newly written tracks, including a song produced by Shimizu Shoutarou, the main composer of Kurayamisaka. In pursuit of an authentic “live sound,” Nagase and her band recorded the album during a retreat in the mountains of Yamanashi Prefecture, staying together in a studio for an immersive production experience.
The album’s artwork is designed by Enomoto Mariko. A limited first edition will be released in a USB flash drive format, including high-resolution audio, demo recordings of select songs, sheet music, and stem data. Additionally, it will feature footage from Eureka, Nagase’s first solo concert held at LIQUIDROOM in Tokyo during the summer of 2023.
In addition, ticket applications for the general pre-sale lottery of the Mofu Mohu Tour began on Friday, March 28, at noon via ePlus. The tour will kick off on Friday, May 30, at Shibuya WWW in Tokyo, with a total of four performances across four cities in Japan.
Music has no shape, no physical form—it cannot be seen, yet it has the power to transport us to new landscapes, revive distant memories, and awaken our senses in ways nothing else can.
This album is a vessel for that intangible yet immense force.
We recorded it deep in the forest, staying together, immersed in nature alongside the musicians and engineers. Every breath of that atmosphere, every moment of that experience, is woven into the sound.For the first time, I collaborated on lyrics with a writer I deeply admire, creating two songs together. I also wrote and composed two tracks myself. While I’ve always enjoyed making music in my own space, this is the first time I’ve approached songwriting with the awareness that it would be shared with the world. In a way, this album marks my debut as a songwriter.
After a year and a half, this long-awaited album is both a testament to who I am and a declaration of where I’m headed.
