Bong Joon-ho’s Latest Film ‘Mickey 17’ Set for Japanese Release on March 28
The Japanese release date for Bong Joon-ho’s highly anticipated film ‘Mickey 17’ has been confirmed for March 28, with the Japanese poster also being revealed.
This marks the first new film in five years from director Bong Joon-ho, who gained worldwide recognition with Parasite, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. ‘Mickey 17’ is based on the novel ‘Mickey7’ by Edward Ashton.
Set in a future where a massive corporation pushes humanity’s development, the film follows the protagonist, Mickey, who ends up repeatedly resurrecting in a new body after failing to read his contract properly, thus becoming part of a mission beyond any human’s expectations. As a key member of the development team and humanity’s vanguard, Mickey embarks on an extraordinary and dangerous adventure on an ice planet. Robert Pattinson stars as Mickey, with Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo rounding out the cast.
The original Japanese release date for ‘Mickey 17’ was set for February 7, 2025, but after multiple delays to the U.S. release, it was changed to June 6. Following the confirmation of the new U.S. release date of March 7, the Japanese release date was subsequently adjusted to March 28.
The newly revealed poster features Mickey in combat mode, wearing a spacesuit at the forefront, with the “remains” of the 16 previous versions of Mickey who have died and been resurrected, arranged in a radial pattern behind him.
