The latest film in the Lupin the Third series, titled LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE (tentative), is set to be released nationwide in 2025, marking the first completely new 2D theatrical animation since 1996’s Lupin the Third: DEAD OR ALIVE. Takeshi Koike, known for directing the LUPIN THE IIIRD series and REDLINE, will be at the helm of this new project.
In anticipation of the release, a teaser trailer and promotional stills have been revealed. The teaser features high-intensity moments, such as Lupin III’s car spinning out of control, Daisuke Jigen and Inspector Zenigata firing their weapons, Goemon Ishikawa brandishing his sword, and Fujiko Mine enjoying a glass of wine in a bar. The trailer concludes with an intriguing tagline: “You still don’t know the real Lupin III.”
As part of the buildup to the film, theaters have been screening a revival of Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro since November 29. After the main feature, some theaters are offering an exclusive, extended version of the LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE teaser, running for about two minutes.
