Sumida’s Sumiyume Bon Odori: Live Performances by Akko Gorilla and Seiko Ito

The “Sumiyume Odori Parade” will be held on October 25 (Fri) and 26 (Sat) at Soyokaze Plaza in Sumida Park, Sumida Ward, Tokyo.

Launched in 2022 as a related event of the art project “Sumida River: All Things, Dreams of Ink” (commonly known as Sumiyume), the Sumiyume Odori Parade takes inspiration from Katsushika Hokusai’s “Odori Gyoretsu-zu,” which depicts a joyful procession of dancing people. A traditional yagura stage will be set up along the Sumida River at Soyokaze Plaza in Sumida Park, featuring live performances of Bon Odori and more.

On October 25 (Fri), the yagura stage will host performances by groups participating in “Sumiyume,” as well as offer time for local community members to gather and “play.” Attendees can enjoy dancing, live performances, or simply relax in the open plaza.

On October 26 (Sat), a live Bon Odori event will take place, featuring a diverse lineup of musicians and singers, including Jinta-la-Mvta, along with local dancers and performance groups. The event is open to all, inviting people of all ages to join in. Attendees can dance to familiar Bon Odori tunes or move along to original songs, expanding the circle of dancers. Artists such as Akkogorilla, Seiko Ito, Haruka Umegoto, Chizuki Ozawa, Shin Kataoka, Junko Sato, Midori Takenoko, Saho Terao, Akari Machi, Takayuki Matsuda, Sansuke Yamada, and Rikuramai will perform. The event is produced by Yuuichi Kishino, a Sumida Ward native known for organizing DJ events in unique settings like public baths and convenience stores.
