The nominees for the 81st Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday, December 11 (Japan time).
The film with the most nominations was “Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig. The film, a live-action adaptation of the world of Barbie dolls, received nine nominations in seven categories, including Best Picture in the Musical/Comedy category. Margot Robbie, who played Barbie, and Ryan Gosling, who played Ken, were nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
“Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, which depicts the life of Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb,” was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay in the Drama category. Killian Murphy, who played Oppenheimer, was nominated for Best Actor and Emily Blunt was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in eight categories.
The Box Office Awards, newly created this year to be selected from blockbusters grossing $150 million or more at the box office, include “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” as well as “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One” starring Tom Cruise and Taylor Swift’s concert film “Taylor Swift: THE ERAS TOUR” was also nominated.
From Japan, “The Boy and the Heron” directed by Hayao Miyazaki and “Suzume” directed by Makoto Shinkai were nominated for Best Animated Film. Joe Hisaishi, who was involved in the music for “The Boy and the Heron” In addition, “The Super Mario Brothers Movie,” a Japan-US co-production, was nominated in three categories: Best Animated Film, Best Box Office Performance, and Best Theme Song.
