A new trailer for “THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES,” which will be released in theaters nationwide on December 22 (Friday), has been released.
“THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES,” is an international mega-hit series adapted from the best-selling novel of the same title, which has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. The film depicts the “Hunger Games,” a terrifying event in which one boy and one girl from each district are chosen each year to fight each other until the last one is killed in order to punish the 12 districts that have rebelled against the Capitol, the capital of the nation Panem.
The latest film and prequel, “THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES,” takes place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games,” volunteered to be a District 12 player, and decades before Donald Sutherland’s Coriolanus Snow took over as Panem’s dictator. The story takes place decades before the reign of Donald Sutherland’s Coriolanus Snow as the dictator of Panem.
Directed by Francis Lawrence of the “I Am Legend” and “Hunger Games” series. The screenplay is by Michael Leslie (“Macbeth” and “Assassin’s Creed”) and Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”), and the original story was written by Susan Collins of the “Hunger Games” series.
The lead role of Coriolanus Snow is played by Tom Blythe, who made his film debut in “Robin Hood” and has also worked in TV dramas. The heroine, Lucy Grey, is played by Rachel Ziegler, who made her film debut in “West Side Story” and won a “Golden Globe” for Best Actress.
The new trailer features a new song, “Can’t Catch Me Now,” written by Olivia Rodrigo for the film. The video depicts the gradual attraction between Lucy Gray, a player in District 12, and Snow, who is assigned to be her trainer. Olivia said, “I am so excited to have been given the opportunity to write a song for “THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES,”! and confides on X (formerly Twitter) about her joy at being able to participate in the film.
The original soundtrack, featuring new music by Olivia Rodrigo, and the original score, featuring a play by musician James Newton Howard, will be released simultaneously on Friday, November 17. The original soundtrack includes Rachel Ziegler’s version of “The Hanging Tree,” the song that Jennifer Lawrence, who played Katniss in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” sang in the film.
