A circle of friends connected by gootouchi! The “FIST BUMP” corner of the radio program “GRAND MARQUEE” features people who live and enjoy Tokyo in a relay format.

On November 8, Yuya, an event producer and casting director, was introduced by Fumitaka Takebayashi, owner of the golf select store “RUFFLOG. We asked him about his work with Dr. Martens and boxer Tenshin Nasukawa, the podcast-based media he runs, this year’s “Best Buy,” and more.

Yuya’s Trend-Setting Work

Celeina (MC): Yuya was born in 1994 and has been playing soccer for 16 years since his childhood, playing for Yokohama FC, a J-League club. As a university student, she studied marketing as an intern for a sports manufacturer, and after graduation, she took a seat in the Communications department and became a PR publicist. After leaving the company, he has been working as an event producer and casting director for private fashion brands.

Takano (MC): According to Mr. Takebayashi, “Youya is behind the trend “.

Yuya: No, no. It’s quite over the top, “Mr. Take! “(haha).

Celeina:I would like to start by asking you about your work. You have worked with companies such as Apple and Budweiser, artist BLACKPINK, and boxer Tenshin Nasukawa, among others , but first let me ask you about your work with Dr. Martens.

Yuya: I have been working with Dr. Martens for the past three years. I am directing a project called “TOKYO AWAKENS,” which picks up young Tokyo trend-setters and introduces their activities to the world. Although the members are close to each other, they are each doing various things, so I put together the project while selecting such people.

Takano: You selected 11 people, right?

Yuya: Yes, I did. In terms of the number of people, there are 11, but if you look at the Tokyo street scene, there are a number of artist crews and creative teams. We shot one short movie while weaving those things together. If you look up “TOKYO AWAKENS” and “Dr. Martens,” I think you will find what you are looking for, so please check it out.

Because it is people-to-people work, we value the feeling of gratitude.

Celeina: You also work with boxer Tenshin Nasukawa, right?

Yuya: We have a team called “Team Tenshin,” which is more like a family than a job. We have a food stall at local festivals, and we work in a way to enliven small children and the local community.

Takano: Did you know each other originally?

Yuya: We met through the introduction of VERDY, a graphic art designer with whom I am currently working.

Celeina: Human connections are special, aren’t they?

Yuya: Yes, it is. I am always grateful for the connections I have made.

Celeina: What do you value in your work?

Yuya: It is a people-to-people job, so the most important thing is to be grateful and considerate.

Celeina:Do you express your gratitude in words? Or do you show it through your actions?

Yuya: Both. Lately, I really think that words like “thank you” are very important. I think there are people who can say such words and people who can’t, but the best part is that I am surrounded by people who can.

Takano: The closer you get to someone, the more you tend to neglect that part of yourself. But again, it is important to treat people with respect.

“CLICK TOKYO” a media that presents students with options

Celeina:Yuya, you also run a media outlet called “CLICK TOKYO,” which is mainly a podcast.

Yuya: “CLICK TOKYO” itself was launched by four people of the same generation born in 1994 who teamed up during the coronavirus pandemic with the aim of creating ideas from various angles and providing one-of-a-kind content. The podcast is called “OUT of BOX” within “CLICK TOKYO”. It is similar to “GRAND MARQUEE” this time, but we invite creative people who are practicing various things as guests and ask them about their stories.

Takano: What is the target audience for this one?

Yuya: Our target audience is students between the ages of 18 and 22.

Celeina: What made you decide to standardize on students?

Yuya: As was the case with myself, I think that in Japan there is a notion that after high school and university, you join a company. However, I hope that by inviting guests who work as artists, stylists, editors, and other people who are not so-called “company employees” to listen to the program, it will help students to have more options during their student years.

Celeina:It is true that during the student period, you suddenly have more opportunities to make choices. I think this is very valuable content. I would love to hear more, but let’s interrupt for a song here. I asked Yuya to choose a song that we would all like to listen to together on the radio at this time. What song would it be?

Yuya: It’s a song by a friend of mine and a really cool artist I like, “Flower” by Yo-Sea.

This year’s “Best Buy” is MATE.BIKE

Celeina: Today on the show, we are sharing our “Best Buys” for 2023, what are some of Yuya’s “Best Buys”?

Yuya: My “Best Buy” is a MATE.BIKE bicycle.

Celeina: I often see them around town.

Yuya: I bought one about a year and a half ago, but one of them was stolen. It’s a bit expensive, but I like it so much that I recently bought another one.

Takano: What attracts you to them?

Yuya: In my job, I have to go to many meetings in a day at various places. At those times, cabs are sometimes too slow or impossible to catch, and trains are sometimes too slow to make it on time. I think electric bicycles in general are good, I bought a MATE.BIKE and I recommend it.

Celeina: It’s small and stylish. I’m interested in an electric bike called VanMoof.

Yuya: That one was recently withdrawn, so I can’t buy it anymore.

Celeina:No kidding! Thanks for letting me know. I’ve heard good things about electric bicycles and will check out MATE.BIKE. FIST BUMP” is a circle of friends connected by gootouch, and you are introducing us to your friends.

Yuya: I’ll introduce Mr. Tokio Ito of the product label “CarService.

Celeina: In a word, what kind of person is he?

Yuya: He is a creative person with many hobbies.

Celeina: What is your relationship with him?

Yuya: We are friends because we are of the same generation, and we are also kart racing buddies, which is my hobby.

Celeina: Tomorrow, I’ll be talking to Tokio Ito of the product label CarService. FIST BUMP: Today we have event producer and casting director Yuya. Thank you very much.
