The DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS, one of the world’s most prestigious DJ competitions, will be held for the first time in Japan on October 11th, 2025.
Since its inception in 1985 in London, the DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS has become a historic event that celebrates the art of DJing under the philosophy that “DJs are at the core of tomorrow’s music.” Over the years, the competition has produced legendary DJs such as Mix Master Mike from the Beastie Boys, A-Trak, who has toured with Kanye West, DJ CRAZE, a three-time champion, and Hudson Mohawke from WARP Records. Additionally, Cashmere Cat, an internationally sought-after DJ from Norway, is another notable winner. The competition’s global reach has made it the largest DJ event in the world, with participants selected through qualifiers held in various countries.
Japan has long been a strong contender in the DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS, with notable champions such as DJ KENTARO, who became the first Asian world champion in 2002 with the highest score ever recorded in the competition, and DJ 松永 from Creepy Nuts. Japan’s domestic qualifiers have been taking place since 1990, and the country continues to produce world-class DJ talent.
For the first time in its history, the DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held in Asia, marking the 40th anniversary of the event. As part of this milestone, top DJs from across the globe will compete for the coveted title of world champion.
The competition will be divided into four categories: the “CLASSIC” single category, the “BATTLE FOR SUPREMACY” battle category, a newly added “SCRATCH BATTLE” category, and a category dedicated to showcasing advanced mixing techniques and storytelling. Fans can expect an exciting and highly competitive event with DJs from all over the world showcasing their skills.
