‘THE BRUTALIST,’ which had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and won the Silver Lion for Best Director, is set for release in Japan on February 21, 2025.
The film chronicles the extraordinary life of Laszlo Toth, a Hungarian Jewish architect who survived the Holocaust during World War II and later emigrated to the United States. Spanning 215 minutes, it tells the story of the architect who, having lost everything, clings to the hope of the American Dream while enduring the struggles of being an immigrant. His undying love for his family and passion for architecture drive a grand, 30-year human drama.
Adrian Brody, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 74th Academy Awards for ‘The Pianist,’ plays the lead role of Laszlo Toth. Felicity Jones, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for ‘The Theory of Everything,’ plays his wife, Elzbieta, whose fate intertwines with his. Guy Pearce, known for roles in ‘L.A. Confidential’ and ‘Memento,’ portrays Harrison, a wealthy man whose influence profoundly affects Laszlo’s life in America. The cast also includes Joe Alwyn from ‘Kinds of Kindness’ and Raffey Cassidy from ‘Tomorrowland,’ alongside a range of experienced and rising stars. The film is directed and written by Brady Corbet, who won the Director’s Award at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival for his debut film ‘The Childhood of a Leader.’
Along with the announcement of the Japanese release, a teaser trailer and stills have also been revealed. The teaser showcases a glimpse of Laszlo Toth’s extraordinary life in America, captured in a stylish manner that embodies “Brutalism.”
