The international art fair “Tokyo Gendai” will be held at the Yokohama International Peace Conference Center (Pacifico Yokohama) in Minatomirai, Kanagawa Prefecture, from July 5 (Friday) to 7 (Sunday).
The fair, which will be held for the second time, will bring together contemporary art galleries from Japan and abroad to exhibit and sell a diverse range of works by both established and up-and-coming artists. The fair will be a world-class event with 73 exhibitors from 20 countries, including 24 galleries, such as BLUM, Sadie Coles HQ, and Perrotin, who will exhibit for the second time in 2023, and Pace Gallery, which will be exhibiting for the first time.
Exhibitions by galleries will be divided into three themes: Galleries, Hana ‘Flower’, and Eda ‘Branch’. Galleries from Japan and abroad will exhibit works by Robert Longo, Ai Weiwei, and others. Hana ‘Flower'” will feature works by young and mid-career artists from 24 galleries, including Sophie Barber from England, Yusuff Aina from Nigeria, and Japanese artists Yusuke Asai and Keisuke Tanaka. Eda ‘Branch'” will feature works by well-known Asian artists and emerging Asian artists, including Korean painter Kim Tschang-yeul and Filipino artist Manuel Ocampo.
The exhibition also includes “Tsubomi ‘Flower Bud’,” a special exhibition on contemporary social issues, “Sato ‘Meadow’,” a large-scale installation, and a special showcase in collaboration with the Japan Foundation for Arts and Culture, “N.Y.C.A.”. A special showcase “Ne ‘Root'” in collaboration with domestic art and culture foundations will also be held to offer a multifaceted art experience.
