The stage production of “Future Boy Conan” will run from Tuesday, May 28 to Sunday, June 16 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space Playhouse in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
“Future Boy Conan” is an animation series produced by Nippon Animation and first directed by Hayao Miyazaki in 1978. Set on a devastated Earth after the Final War, the series is an adventure action drama in which the main character, Conan, fights against those who cling to power.
The production will be directed by Inbal Pinto, who directed the musical “The Cat that Lived a Million Times” and the stage play “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” based on Haruki Murakami’s novel, and David Mambouch, who is also a writer and director as well as a resident performer at the National Theater of the People in France, and has worked on stage and several films. David Mambouffe, who has also worked on stage and in several films as a playwright and director, will co-produce the production. The script will be written by Yasuro Ito and the music by Umitaro Abe.
The cast includes Seishiro Kato as Conan, Yuka Kageyama as Lana, Songha as Jimsy, Mugi Kadowaki as Monsley, Shuntaro Miyao as Dyce, Ippei Okano as Luke, Tomohiko Imai as Lepka, and Kippei Shiina as Dr. Rao, Grandpa.
The show will also be performed at the Theater Drama City, Umeda Arts Theatre, Osaka, from June 28 (Fri.) to 30 (Sun.).
To commemorate the stage adaptation of “Future Boy Conan” episodes 1-4 of the TV anime version will be screened at 61 movie theaters nationwide for one week only from May 24 (Fri.). For information on screening dates and tickets, check the official website of each cinema.
